The Soulsby Foundation Travelling Fellowships
The RSM is pleased to announce these new Fellowships which will be granted to medical or veterinary graduates who propose an impactful project within the international field of “One Health”.
Lord Soulsby of Swaffham Prior (1926 – 2017)
Lord Soulsby of Swaffham Prior, former veterinary surgeon to the Queen, and Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Cambridge, was an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.
He was the only individual to have served as President of both the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (1984 – 1985) and the RSM (1998-2000), as well as the only member of his profession in the House of Lords.
In 2015, Lord Soulsby was awarded the Queen’s Medal by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for his ‘outstanding lifetime contribution’ to juxtaposing the worlds of medical and veterinary science.
The Soulsby Foundation
The Soulsby Foundation was established in 2016 on Lord Soulsby’s 90th birthday, when colleagues, friends and family came together to honour his important legacy, which was to inspire colleagues and students to view animal and human medicine as one continuous health-related tapestry.
