- This unique course, devised and led by veterinary surgeons experienced in equine pain, behaviour, welfare and medicine, emphasizes the position of the equine vet at the centre of their patients’ care.
- This course aims to equip the practitioner with the knowledge, skills and practice to assess chronic pain and overall welfare; to treat pain (musculoskeletal; visceral; dental; dermatological; neuropathic); and to collaborate with professional colleagues in the most effective way.
- The syllabus includes: assessment of pain and welfare; equine behaviour and its relevance to pain; pharmacological treatment of pain; physical techniques including physiotherapy and acupuncture; the input of the farrier, the saddler and the chiropractic practitioner; the biomechanics of pain and lameness (horse and rider); practice at devising treatment plans and adapting these through follow up.
