January 2009 Update
The Tafonius: A new large animal anaesthesia machine– is it really different?

The question could more pertinently be: Is it the same as all the other large animal ventilators? The answer is an emphatic NO!
Tafonius is not at all like a conventional large animal ventilator. A whole new approach to the problem of large animal ventilation has been used. For some this may seem a little scary since the capability of Tafonius is far removed from conventional ventilator control. The essence of the development of Tafonius is not that these new features are used, but rather that they CAN be.

HDO - High Definition Oscillometry
HDO blood pressure measurement opens up new possibilities for patient assessment. It provides extremely rapid measurements (within as little as 8 seconds), which is essential for assessment of patients with high pulse rates and for minimization of artifact-related measurement failure. Especially when monitoring hypotensive patients (e.g., during anesthesia, shock or intensive-care situations), HDO technology takes blood pressure measurement to a new dimension and permits sensitive and individually adapted anesthesia management, which is especially important in patients with life-threatening conditions and arrhythmia. This article provides an overview of how HDO works and how it differs from other blood pressure measurement systems.
